北京脑中心举行2021级开学典礼

又到了一年中最好的季节，天高气爽、微风习习，9月3日，北京脑科学与类脑研究中心（以下简称北京脑中心）全体老师、2021级31名新晋博士生，以及博士后代表济济一堂，举办了开学典礼。

在嘹亮而庄严的奏唱国歌后，北京脑中心联合主任饶毅致辞。饶老师今年鼓励脑中心成为生命科学，至少是神经科学的领先研究机构。

联合主任罗敏敏则从人员、硬件和文化建设三个方面介绍了脑中心的现在和未来。北京脑中心建设已经达到了一个初步的规模，现在已有25个独立实验室和11个辅助平台，总人数将近400人。北京脑中心将继续招聘PI，方向包括认知基本原理、计算神经科学、疾病和技术等等；还计划和其他单位共建平台，如脑机接口平台和精神疾病的精准治疗和诊断、儿童发育平台等。所以，罗老师说：“会有更多的PI加入我们，不仅在基础认知方面，在疾病和计算类脑方面都会有进一步的拓展。”

在硬件方面，“所有的PI都在热火朝天地建设实验室，技术平台已经初具规模”，罗老师介绍道：“下一步我们会接着建设芯片设计平台和类脑设计加工平台，也会在脑机接口方面有一些新的技术平台的建设。”

大家最期待的事情——新的食堂什么时候建好？罗老师告诉大家，我们将在明年四五月份搬进二期，行政人员在细心地设计，同学们可以对食堂持有较好的期待。

听到这里，所有人都很振奋。

最后，罗老师特别强调了北京脑中心最特别的地方：文化——Enjoy Science——我们以科学、真理为最高的探索目标，在CIBR内部，在科学面前，没有绝对的权威。

随后，科研副主任Carlos Ibanez致辞（全文）：

When I was about in the middle of my undergraduate studies, I decided that I needed some laboratory practice. So I joined a lab that was studying Drosophila genetics. The Prof. there his name was Enzo, Prof. Enzo Muñoz. He was an old-school geneticist, with rather conservative views. We talked often. He was talking about science. I remember one thing he said once: “There are no boring topics in science, there are only bored scientists.” I thought at that time he was defending himself a little bit. (Laugh)

我在读大学的时候就觉得，我应该开始积累一些实验室工作经验。所以我加入了一个主攻果蝇遗传学的实验室。当时指导我的是恩佐·穆尼奥斯教授。他是一个非常传统的遗传学家，观点也比较保守。我们那时候经常一起聊对于科学的看法。我记得有一次他提出了一个观点：“科学里没有无聊的课题，有的只是无聊的科学家。”我当时觉得他有点在为自己开脱。（笑）

Then I understood that he was actually talking about something more profound. You are at the first step of a very tall ladder. I’m talking now to the new students that join us this year. I’m still climbing that ladder, and so do all my colleagues at CIBR. But you are at the first step, the very first step. You are not yet a scientist, but you will become a scientist at the end of your Ph.D. And that should be your focus. Not the topic. The topic is not so important at this stage and will become important later. Not even methods or techniques, you will learn them whether you like it or not. But to become a scientist is the key in the years ahead of you. How to think about science. How to find what is important and what is not. How to organize your literature. How to… It’s endless. It’s about mental growth. So you have to come out from your Ph.D. as a different person. If you are not a different person, then something didn’t go well in your Ph.D. You need to find an environment that nurtures this intellectual growth. Find a mentor that has time to spend talking to you about these issues.

后来我才逐渐理解他说这句话时背后的深意。如果科学是一座很高的阶梯，今天在座的所有新生，你们才刚刚迈出了攀登的第一步。当然，即便是我和我在CIBR 的所有同事们，至今也仍然在攀登的道路上。尽管你们现在还不能称为科学家，但当你们完成博士学业的时候，你们会变成真的科学家。而这个过程是你们需要关注的重点。并不是去关注要做什么课题，选择课题在现阶段还没有那么重要——当然后期它会逐渐重要起来；也不是科研的方法或技术，那些你们无论如何都会慢慢掌握的。而在未来的几年中，你们最需要思考的是如何才能成长为一名科学家。如何正确看待科学？如何辨别关键问题？如何撰写文章？类似的问题不胜枚举。在这个过程中，你们的心智将得到成长。最终，你们要以一个全新的身份获得自己的博士学位，不然你的博士生涯就是不完整的。所以你们需要找到能够促进这种心智成长的环境，找一个愿意花时间和你探讨这些问题的导师。

You have chosen the best way to spend your life. Science and art, music and literature, these are the four things that make us human, these are the highest expression of humanity. And science is the best way you can spend your life. I will leave you with one final thought that I hope you reflect on it during your life: science or to be a scientist is not a job. It’s not even your profession. It’s a lifestyle. It’s a way to live your life. Work well. Thank you.

如今，你们已经选择了一种最好的生活方式。科学和艺术，音乐与文学，这四种事物赋予人类以独特性，也是人性最极致的体现。选择从事科学研究工作，你们将会度过极其有意义的一生。最后我想提一个观点，希望你们能够在未来不断思考：从事科学研究不是一份工作，科学家也不是一种职业。科学是一种生活方式，是你们要花一生时间与之相处、为之努力的存在，加油。谢谢。
